Katie Shernan, a confessed “Newburyport lovin’ food nerd” is a life-long resident of Newburyport and West Newbury. With her mom and business partner, Karen, Katie runs Port Plums and Port Blue Accents, 2 retail businesses located in downtown Newburyport. Katie got her start at The Dragon’s Nest, a toy store and decades-long staple of Newburyport shopping. “I always expected to get tired of the job and the same old view every day. But after 4 years of working every summer, winter, and spring break, I wanted more!” After college Katie began working in human resources but a few short months later, she and Karen purchased Newburyport Olive Oil, a pre-existing business at The Tannery. The following summer, Katie and Karen opened the adjacent Port Plums with Port Blue Accents following in late 2016. “I love so many things about being a shop owner,” say Katie. “From curating the coolest products to organizing fun events, there’s never a dull moment. But the very best part is getting to know our wonderful customers!” When not tending to her shops, Katie loves to cook, snuggle with her dogs, and travel. Next time you see Kami, make sure to say hi! No really, do it- her southern accent is adorable.
Thanks for being part of YPP, Kami! Looking forward to all you will bring to this group! We get this question all the time so here you go!!
Newburyport YPP aka Young People with a Purpose is a group who donate their time, energy and money to doing good. Simple as that. We define Young as 'Not yet old'. So, are you not yet old? As the saying goes, you are only as old as you feel and if you do not yet feel old then- you're in!! We have had folks from 3 to a little older than 3 join us for our events, cleanups and volunteer opportunies. Your age is not important, the fact that you are going good and giving back is. So no, no matter your age you are NOT too old for YPP! Come, join us! You will quickly learn that you will fit right in. xoxo ~Tiffany (age 36) & Alison (age 34) |
