On any given day, Mary Boland can be found shooting videos of one of the local breweries in trade for free beer. A former Plum Island resident, Mary operates a video production company that has its roots in Newburyport, but is now right next door in Amesbury MA. In the early days of Anchor Hitch Media, Mary collaborated with locals like Dancing Goats Dairy, Newburyport Brewing Company, Metzy’s, Riverwalk and other emerging young companies. She believes in new companies building each other up to help each other achieve success. She is now in her 5th year owning and operating Anchor Hitch Media and although not trading work for tacos anymore, she still shoots some video “just for fun.”
Mary is thrilled to be part of YPP because, “It’s not about age, but it’s about having a fresh mentality and approach to networking. Networking should be fun, engaging, interactive, low cost, philanthropic, creative and purposeful. YPP is organized and lead by a dynamic group of new business owners who understand the pain points of getting started and staying open. We are not some “old boys club.” We don’t have an antiquated model whose only goal is to pay the organizers. We are a non-exclusive group where the goal is to inspire collaboration, co-working and innovative ideas!”
When she’s not shooting marketing and promotional videos, Mary can be found out on the boat in the summer or walking in the woods with her dog Chance in the winter.
Many of us pass by this location at least once a week. Many more of us even order from them often. The pizza is delicious and you are always met with a smile and the best customer service. What many do not know is that the owner of our Newburyport Dominos is quietly giving back and true hero in our little sea side city. Recently we were asked by Mr. Donald Jarvis to hightlight the owner of our local Dominos and we happily obliged.
Here are Mr. Jarvis's words about his friend Mr. Viken Dumeciyan:
"I would like to take a moment and share a special thank you to one of the greatest people I know. Someone who is always quick to support and be involved, someone who truly enjoys helping others. I can not count the number of times I have hear about something that this man has done to support the community, a project or a group. It’s truly inspiring. It seems he will always find a way to do what he can.
A story of his recently that truly had an impact on me was what he did this past winter during those nasty power outages. Supplying pizzas, and breadsticks from Newburyport to Ipswich to first responders, and the crew restoring power to our community in the middle of white out conditions and blizzard like forces. There was nothing opened within miles from where they were in Ipswich, but he was opened in Newburyport and he made damn well made sure they were getting food to eat at whatever it took.
Viken, I can never thank you enough, our community can never thank you enough and the City of Newburyport can never thank you enough for your extremely generous, loving and caring heart. Believe me, many people in the area sing your praises - I hear it all the time. You are more then well deserving of being recognized and shown how much you are truly appreciated for what you do and the contributions you make to the community. I’m proud to call you my friend.
You have touched and impacted everyone around you rather it be your employees who admire you, your customers who know they get more then a pizza when they order from you, or your friends and family. You are a very special token to everyone around you.
Viken, thank you for being you!! 🍕 "

Katie Shernan, a confessed “Newburyport lovin’ food nerd” is a life-long resident of Newburyport and West Newbury. With her mom and business partner, Karen, Katie runs Port Plums and Port Blue Accents, 2 retail businesses located in downtown Newburyport.
Katie got her start at The Dragon’s Nest, a toy store and decades-long staple of Newburyport shopping. “I always expected to get tired of the job and the same old view every day. But after 4 years of working every summer, winter, and spring break, I wanted more!”
After college Katie began working in human resources but a few short months later, she and Karen purchased Newburyport Olive Oil, a pre-existing business at The Tannery. The following summer, Katie and Karen opened the adjacent Port Plums with Port Blue Accents following in late 2016.
“I love so many things about being a shop owner,” say Katie. “From curating the coolest products to organizing fun events, there’s never a dull moment. But the very best part is getting to know our wonderful customers!”
When not tending to her shops, Katie loves to cook, snuggle with her dogs, and travel.

We get this question all the time so here you go!!
Newburyport YPP aka Young People with a Purpose is a group who donate their time, energy and money to doing good. Simple as that.
We define Young as 'Not yet old'. So, are you not yet old? As the saying goes, you are only as old as you feel and if you do not yet feel old then- you're in!! We have had folks from 3 to a little older than 3 join us for our events, cleanups and volunteer opportunies.
Your age is not important, the fact that you are going good and giving back is.
So no, no matter your age you are NOT too old for YPP! Come, join us! You will quickly learn that you will fit right in.
~Tiffany (age 36) & Alison (age 34)
There is no way we could do this by ourselves anymore- it is time we had a true YPP committee! We looked high and low and really put a great deal of thought into who we wanted to be part of our do-good committee. These rockstars will be helping us plan events, work with charities and bring YPP to the next level! There is so much good to be done and we look forward to having these fine folks help us make that happen!
Now without further adiue we give to you the YPP committee members!! aka the rockstars!!!
(listed in alphabetical order to keep them from thinking we have favorites)
Over the next few weeks we will be blogging about each one of these crazy, cool folks so you can get to know them! They will all be joining us at our Summer Kickoff Event on June 7th at Andiamo Restaurant in Newburyport when we are featuring and raising money & awareness for Tammy's Closet! Please make sure to say hi to all of these fine folks at the event. They have a lot to share! :)
We want to thank them so much for stepping up and offering their help with our mission to do good with Newburyport YPP!! We are very excited to see what the future holds for YPP!!
